Department of Mechanical Engineering Labs

CAD Laboratory

CAD Laboratory has been established in the year 2012 with a total carpet area of 2000 sq.ft. A well-equipped computer lab with advanced facilities is established for the benefit of the mechanical engineering students. High end terminals supported by latest hardware and software, latest visual aids, etc. are among them. Advanced mechanical engineering softwares are procured for making the students globally competitive and industry ready. At CAD lab, students get professional training on 2D & 3D drafting of mechanical engineering drawings using the latest version of Auto CAD 2014, CREO 2.0, Cut Viewer (Turner & Miller), ANSYS 15.0 and latest Operating System software. All the software has been acquired with a good number of user licenses to meet the needs of a large number of students and faculty members. Student will learn computer aided design layout and 3D solid modeling definition. Students will also gain the knowledge of design and drafting needed for mechanical engineering discipline. The laboratory has a total number of 70 computer system with the latest configurations connected with a high-end server through switched networking.

CAM Laboratory

CAM laboratory was established in the year 2014 with the area of 30.69 m2 with one CNC trainer Lathe and one CNC trainer Mill with ‘Fanuc’ controllers. Students can do ‘Simulation’ for machining using simulation software ‘Cut viewer’. They do machining like Step turning, Taper turning, Grooving and Profile turning in Lathe and Contour milling, Circular pocketing, Rectangular pocketing, Drilling in Mill as per the syllabus set in curriculum. Hence they are aware of all important codes required and can write manual part programmes for various simple machining processes. Then can do machining in both the machines and it will be helpful for them to get basic knowledge and awareness about the CNC machines.

Metrology and Measurement Laboratory

The Metrology and Measurement Laboratory is the custodian of the official mass, volume and length standards for the State and provides world class level calibration services to the legal weights. Measurement is the act or the result of a quantitative comparison between a predetermined standard and an unknown magnitude. It is essential that the procedure and apparatus employed for obtaining the comparison must be provable. The results of measurements be meaningful and followed by all the standard which is used for comparison must be accurately known and commonly accepted. Metrology covers the accuracy, precision and repeatability of a measurement. It involves traceability or comparison with a “standard” or between different measuring systems. Metrology includes all theoretical and practical aspects of measurement, whatever the measurement uncertainty or the field of application. Students will learnthe necessary skills for calibration and testing of different gauges and instruments and to collect data, perform analysis and interpret results to draw valid conclusions through standard test procedures using various metrology instruments. The Laboratory has a total number of 33 Equipment’s.

Thermal Engineering Laboratory II

Thermal Engineering Laboratory II has been established in the year 2012 with a total carpet area of 800 sq.ft. In this laboratory, the different modes of heat transfer like Conduction, Convection and Radiation phenomenon are studied with the help of the experiments and equipment’s available in the laboratory which is used in real time engineering applications. All experiments conducted in this lab combine elements of theory and practice. Many of the concepts and basic theories which the student learns in the lectures of heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics are demonstrated and confirmed through different experiments.
